The Gardena Pioneer Project will present a health education seminar on Reiki, featuring speaker Patty Tahara Rassouli Sunday, May 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ken Nakaoka Community Center, 1670 W. 162nd St., Gardena.
Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation treatment technique that is said to promote healing by “laying on hands,” based on a theory of balancing one’s life force energy. Rassouli, a Reiki Master teacher and certified yoga teacher, teaches Reiki at El Camino Community College, CSU Long Beach; and in private classes.
Rassouli will explain what Reiki is, its history and how it works to heal the body. She will discuss the various Reiki hand positions used on the body, the five principles of Reiki meditation and the benefits of meditation. Ms. Rassouli will also lead the audience in some chair yoga, breathing meditation and a guided meditation.
The seminar is free to the public and no reservations are required. Refreshments will be provided. Translation will be provided for the Japanese-speaking. This event is sponsored by the Gardena Pioneer Project and the Senior Citizens’ Bureau of the City of Gardena. For further information, contact Karen C. Uyekawa at 213-894-3235.
