    Gardenans have an opportunity to soon dispose of their toxic waste items as a Hazardous and Electronic Waste Roundup is planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Arthur Johnson Memorial Park, 1200 W. 170th St., Gardena.

    The annual waste collection is a joint sponsorship by the City of Gardena Public Works and Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.

    The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program gives Los Angeles County residents a legal and cost free way to dispose of unwanted household chemicals that cannot be disposed of in the regular trash.Residents should be aware that not all toxic items are acceptable.

    Event officials say the Items accepted include motor oil, antifreeze, paint, paint thinner, turpentine, cleaners with acids or lye, pesticides and herbicides, household and car batteries, old computers and television sets, sharp or used needles, expired pharmaceuticals. and mercury thermometers.

    Unacceptable items include explosives, ammunition or radioactive materials, waste from businesses, trash or old tires, and white goods such as washers, stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners.

    Preparation helps the process move smoothly on disposal day. County residents should be aware that generally, there is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle; they should bring items in a sturdy box, preferably in their original labeled containers; be prepared to leave all containers, and do not mix products together.
