El Camino College’s football team was originally supposed to begin its 2022 season at home against Santa Monica City College on Sept. 3 before having their game postponed.
Instead, the Warriors and Corsairs both had byes last Saturday, so they agreed to make up the game. ECC, though, proved it was more first class as it routed SMCC 55-7.
El Camino recorded season highs of 55 points, 602 total offensive yards and 409 passing.
The Warriors (3-2) used three quarterbacks, but it was Mehki Jordan and Julian Carter who combined to pass for all the yardage by completing 30 of 43 passes for four touchdowns. Carter passed for 241 yards and Jordan for 168.
ECC rushed for 193 yards as the Warriors’ balanced attack was led by former North Torrance High standout Stephen Bradford Jr. who carried the ball eight times for 57 yards and two TDs. Brian Santana-Fis added 45 yards and one touchdown on seven carries. Marceese Yetts ran for 37 yards on just three carries.
On defense, ex-Serra High standout Brian Lando and Aaron House each recorded two quarterback sacks. Quentin Brown had one interception. El Camino totaled 14 tackles for loss of yardage, including seven sacks.
The Warriors begin the tough National Central Conference at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut Saturday at 6 p.m.
