Carmelita Jeter, alongside her brother Eugene “Pooh” Jeter III, will hold a turkey drive Saturday, Nov, 22 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Rowley Park for families in need this Thanksgiving season. The Jeters will donate 250 turkeys on Saturday.

Carmelita Jeter, is a renowned sprinter and three time Olympic medalist who many know from her success at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Eugene “Pooh” Jeter III is also an accomplished athlete, formerly of the NBA now playing basketball internationally as a point guard for the Shandong Hi Speed of the Chinese Basketball League. The siblings grew up in the city of Gardena, California, miles outside of Los Angeles, and felt it important to give back to the community that shaped their lives.
“My number one goal is to bring unity, support and opportunities to the city of Gardena. Gardena is where I grew up, so this is home for me,” Carmelita Jeter said. “So for me to come back and give love here is a no brainer – to positively affect the community where I grew up is a must.”
This will be the first turkey drive the Jeter family executes on November 22. Eugene Jeter will be in China on the day of the drive, but provided full efforts in helping make the drive come to fruition.
“I love Gardena. I represent Gardena when I travel around the world,” Eugene Jeter said. “This is Team Jet’s first time doing a Thanksgiving turkey drive, and we felt it was only right we do it in our city, Gardena. I’m so sorry I can’t be there to enjoy this moment with you as I am in China for the start of our season.”
The Jeters, also known as “TeamJet” (#teamjet), has full support and backing from the Mayor’s office and the City Council of Gardena.

A few years later, Jeter returned to the states to play for the NBA Sacramento Kings. After playing for the NBA, Jeter returned to Europe, which lead him to his contract now currently playing for the Shandong Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association.
