At the City Council meeting on the evening of Tuesday, October 22, there were no Departmental Items at all on the agenda, though there were some administrative items to take care of.
Gardena Military Veteran Felipe Perez, who served in the U.S. Army, was there to receive a recognition from the City at the recommendation of Mayor Tasha Cerda. Following that, Certificates of Commendation presented to the members of the First Citizens Leadership Academy by City Manager Clint Osorio. Gardena’s Public Works Department received recognition for the 2024 Beacon Spotlight Award.
The only other item of note was 8F on the Consent Calendar, Resolution 6682, “Adopting the City of Gardena’s 2024 Final Local Hazard Mitigation Plan.”
“The Federal Disaster Management Act of 2000 requires every local, county and state government to have an approved Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) in order to be eligible for pre-disaster and post-disaster grants and funding,” read the staff note. “The LHMP addresses potential impacts from both natural and human-made hazards and provides guidance for implementing mitigation strategies.”
With an update necessary every five years, the City reviewed and approved a deaft of this update in September of last year.
“Once the LHMP is adopted, the City will be eligible to receive pre-disaster and post-disaster grants and funding,” the note read. “Staff respectfully recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 6682, the City of Gardena’s 2024 Final Local Hazard Mitigation Plan.”
The Consent Calendar items were approved unanimously.
