A motorcycle collision that occurred on Saturday, February 28 at the intersection of 135th Street and Normandie Avenue at about 1:15 a.m. has left a man in critical condition, according to the Gardena Police Department.

The GPD said that a motorcycle and a Kia were involved in the accident, and that police officers and firefighters had responded to the scene.

According to California Accident Alerts, “The responders found a man unresponsive in the roadway. The victim was rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance. GPD’s Traffic Bureau is investigating the cause of the crash.”

The report states that, “Gardena recorded a very low risk profile in recent years as per California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) data from the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). OTS rankings compare incorporated cities in similar population groups using empirical Bayesian methods, factoring fatal/injury victims, population, and vehicle miles traveled.”

“In 2022, the city recorded 11 total fatal and injury victims, ranking 104/104 in its group – among the absolute safest, with 4 alcohol-involved victims (ranking 103/104, very low concern) and similarly strong performance in other categories (e.g., had-been-drinking driver under 21 at low rankings). No extreme high-risk flags appear for 2023 or 2024, consistent with minimal severe incidents.”
