Only an old fuddy-duddy would oppose a modest celebration of a new traffic light at Purche and Rosecrans (avenues). Although I consider myself a fuddy-duddy, I enjoyed the brief ribbon-cutting ceremony the City organized on May 22 to officially start that traffic light on Rosecrans.

Dozens of Gardena residents along with police and staff attended the event. Brief comments were made my Mayor Paul Tanaka, Mayor Pro Tem Tasha Cerda, and Councilman Dan Medina. But the best of the brief comments came from our City Manager Mitch Lansdell, who outlined other improvements coming to Rosecrans Avenue.
Finally the Rosecrans Corridor is coming into its own to rival Artesia Boulevard and Redondo Beach Boulevard. Mr. (John) Burke claims to know how my dictionary defines “corridor.” In my Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 11th Edition, in addition to other definitions of corridor, there is this one: “an area or stretch of land identified by a common characteristic or purpose” (page 281). The phrase “Rosecrans Corridor” was not invented by me. Just Google the phrase and you’ll see what I mean.
If my letter of May 8 got Mr. Burke upset (letter to the editor, May 22 GVN), I wonder what he’ll have to say when I bring up my next suggestion for Rosecrans Avenue. More about that later.
