The City of Gardena is hosting a Teen Night on Friday, February 7, and a Parent Workshop on the same night.
“The City of Gardena is hosting its 3rd annual Teen Night (ages 13 & Up) in partnership with Rainbow Services to spread awareness about Teen Dating Violence in the month of February,” the City says online. “In time for Valentine’s Day, we want to gather local teens to share resources and prevention lessons in relationships and self-esteem. The night will promote healthy relationships and learning how to deal with cyber abuse. If you aren’t ready for relationships, that’s ok–you might have a struggling friend, and you will learn how to support them. We will also have activities, games, food, and raffle prizes during the night. This is an event you don’t want to miss.”
Parents, they say, can “hang out in the lobby or enjoy some free time running errands. We will keep your teens safe!”
The aim, they say, is to help teens become their own relationship expert.
“Discover how to spot red flags and avoid toxic energies in your relationships,” the event reads. “We’re also tips about self-love tips and how to enhance your confidence, and help you embrace a positive self-image.”
They promise games, food and fun.
Meanwhile, the Rainbow Services is also hosting a parent workshop, “dedicated to learning and spreading awareness about Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Parents/guardians will learn how to identify the red flags of dating abuse, the prevalence of teen dating violence, and how to support youth who are in abusive relationships. Did you know one out three teens will be abused by a romantic partner they are dating before they are an adult? Come learn the facts and learn how to develop a stronger relationship with your teen. This event will be happening while Teen Night is happening next door.”
The events both take place at the Nakaoka Community Center, 1670 West 162nd Street Gardena, CA 90247 on Friday, February 7. They start at 6:30, with the Teen Night ending at 9:30 p.m., and the Parent Workshop ending at 8 p.m.
