Julien’s Auctions, the Gardena-based auction house, and Turner Classic Movies have joined forces to host an auction of sci-fi memorabilia at the Comic Con Museum.
“William Shatner’s (Captain James T. Kirk) long-lost legendary phaser and iconic communicator from the Star Trek original TV series [has been] discovered and unveiled for the first time in over fifty years,” reads a statement.
The auction takes place at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 28 at the Comic-Con Museum
2131 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101. Exhibition: Now to July 28 (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. PT daily except Wednesday).
Other items available will be from the Harry Potter, Marvel and DC universes.
“These two extraordinary and important artifacts from Star Trek history long forgotten and believed to have been lost, were recently rediscovered after being unseen for over 50 years,” they say. “Considered the summit of Star Trek memorabilia, these two of the most recognizable and most sought-after props in the franchise that have achieved mythic status among Star Trek fans and collectors alike (each with a conservative estimate of $100,000 – $200,000) will boldly go where no auction has gone before and are expected to break records when they head to auction for the first time at Julien’s and TCM’s Hollywood auction event November 9th in Los Angeles.”
The phaser, created in 1966, can be seen in the episodes “The Cloud Minders” and “The Gamesters of Triskelion.”
“The original owner of the phaser and communicator, a now-deceased relative of the current owners, was a Hollywood prop industry veteran who is believed to have acquired it from a former employee at Paramount Pictures, the studio that has owned Star Trek since 1968,” they said. “Deadpool, Marvel’s most irreverent and wise cracking mercenary will be crashing this party of heroes. Hurtling from the big-screen to the auction block in San Diego, Ryan Reynolds will be offering unique and memorable items associated with his iconic role of Deadpool/Wade Wilson to the auction.”
“There’s no bigger way to celebrate Julien’s Auctions and TCM’s first trip to Comic-Con than this outstanding kick-off event at the San Diego Comic Convention’s Comic-Con Museum presenting these superhero objects directly to the most passionate super fans who made them pop culture phenomenon,” said David Goodman, CEO of Julien’s Auctions. “We are extremely honored to present at our exhibition the holy grail of the original Star Trek series props, the original phaser and communicator used by William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk that were newly discovered after more than 50 years and are thrilled to have Ryan Reynolds join in the fun with the auction of his one-of-a-kind pieces from his upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine.”
