Last season at North Torrance High, the Saxons’ football team scored 40 points against Wilmington Banning but the Pilots’ offense proved too much for the Saxons in their 54-40.
This year, North, again, scored 40 points but it was easily enough in its 40-16 victory over host Banning in a game called with three minutes left due to a scuffle last Friday in Wilmington.
The Saxons had a banner performance by running back-wide receiver-defensive back Dylan Williams. Williams scored four touchdowns and had two interceptions.
Two of those TDs by Williams came in just a 19-second span of the first quarter. His first came on a 28-yard run. Shortly after a Pilot fumble that gave North (3-1) the ball at the Banning 23-yard line, Williams finished things off with a scoring reception from quarterback Travor Lagarde and the Saxons had a 14-3 first quarter lead. Williams also had an interception for a touchdown that gave North a 21-10 halftime lead.
He added a TD reception from 20 yards from Lagarde that helped the Saxons pull away for a 34-16 lead and North finished off the scoring late in the fourth quarter on a 12-yard run by Ben Fonseca.
Banning’s touchdowns were on a 25-yard interception return by Victor Navarro and a 14- yard run from Caleb Nuhi that helped the Pilots cut North’s third period lead to 21-16. Juan Pablo Bacerra added a 22-yard field goal.
Lagarde had three touchdowns passing also including one of five yards to Felix Alvillar in the third period.
Williams caught four passes for 68 yards and two TDs. Hanbyuoul Lozano had eight receptions for 68 yards.
North will have a challenge as it hosts a very good Paraclete High team from Lancaster Friday at 7 p.m.
