Council incumbent Dan Medina walked precincts and knocked on doors to win re-election, while former city commissioner Mark Henderson captured enough votes to win the other city council seat in Tuesday’s Gardena Municipal Electlions.
Medina garnered 32 percent of the votes, followered by Henderson with 28 percent. They outdistanced other candidates, Art Kaskanian, who came in third with 22 percent, and fourth-place finisher Ron Ross, at 18 percent votes.
Henderson will fill the council seat vacated by Rachel Johnson, who was termed out.

Medina’s platform was built around business growth, and especially the water situation in Gardena. He is the Gardena official with the most knowledge in water issues, and is currently working with other local and neighboring city officials to resolve the “black water” problem with the city’s provider, Golden State Water Co.
Henderson set his focus on business growth and generating funds to develop Gardena’s blighted areas. He is a former Planning and Environmental Quality Commissioner.
