El Camino College’s football team saw its record fall to 3-6 after losing to Chaffey College from Rancho Cucamonga 32-14 in a National Central Conference game last Saturday at Redondo High.

A rash of dropped passes and turnovers proved fatal for the Warriors.

Defensively, ECC had trouble stopping the run. The Panthers, who improved to 5-3, were led by running back James Noble and quarterback Levi Plante, who each rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown. Plante completed 17 of 25 passes for 206 yards and one TD.

Chaffey had 527 total offensive yards, including 321 rushing.

Quarterback Jorge Hernandez had a fine game, passing for 223 yards, one touchdown and one interception on a 21-for-39 performance. Hernandez, a former North Torrance High standout, could have been way better as nine of those passes were dropped.

El Camino trailed 20-7 at halftime but cut the Panthers’ lead to 20-14 late in the third period when Hernandez completed a 62-yard bomb to William Morehand to cut Chaffey’s lead to 20-14.

The Panthers, however, finished off the Warriors with a safety, field goal and touchdown.

Things won’t get any easier as ECC visits always powerful Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut Saturday at 6 p.m.
