Gina Alexander, 52, is an entrepreneur and product developer that aims to modernize the city of Gardena, create an arts and music academy, and improve Gardena’s senior services.
“They need a person who knows how to bring in money,” Alexander said. “At the end of the day, we need to get funded and we need to be creative on bringing money from somewhere else other than people’s pockets.”
As an entrepreneur, Alexander has been able to work with a string of notable celebrities such as the late Kobe Bryant and the Black Eyed Peas. She has a large creative background in which she designs products such as bags and other accessories for her clients.
One of the main things that Alexander wants to incorporate into Gardena is the creation of an arts and music academy. She believes that an arts and music academy can create a healthy and creative outlet for younger folks to partake in.
“I’m a very creative person, I’ve worked with the Grammy’s, I’ve worked with BET, I’ve worked with the Oscars, I’ve worked with the American Music Awards,” Alexander said. “My heart is really to build an arts and music and sports academy in Gardena.”
Community outreach is also very important for Alexander. She believes it is important to receive feedback from Gardena’s residents in order to garner the appropriate information to make decisions.
Alexander said she called over 300 people to survey if they wanted a dog park, which was a recent inquiry from a community member that was brought up in one of the candidate forums that took place. The majority of the 300 people surveyed responded saying that they did want a dog park.
Reaching out to Gardena’s residents is important to Alexander in which she goes out of her way to receive feedback from Gardenans.
“When I was going door-knocking, the senior citizens were asking for a senior citizen center like Cerritos,” Alexander said.
This community input helped her realize the necessity of a senior citizen center and how Gardena’s current senior services can be improved.
Alexander has endorsements from Noel Omega, president of the Phil Am Chamber of Greater Los Angeles, Jim Dear, mayor of Carson, and Aurelio Mattucci, council member for the city of Torrance.
