Estate planning workshops set for Feb. 20, March 5 at JCI

A free educational workshop for Asian American seniors and their caregivers will take place Saturday, Feb. 20 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, located at 1964 W. 162nd St., Gardena.

An individual consultation session by appointment only will follow on Saturday, March 5 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the same location. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is also free.

The workshop series will assist seniors and their adult children to begin a conversation on planning financially for the future. We all know the importance of getting your legal and financial documents in order, but do you know what will happen to your property and possessions after you are gone?

On Feb. 20,a discussion will be held on the topic of Estate Planning as a tool to eliminate uncertainties and to maximize the value of the estate.  Come and learn about the importance of estate planning and tools at this workshop as we consider some of the most common legal issues together. The program will be presented in English with simultaneous interpretation in Japanese.

LTSC is working with the Foundation for Financial Planning to offer free one-on-one sessions with professionals from the Financial Planning Association on Saturday, March 5. The Individual Consultation sessionmay cover a wide range of personal finance topics such as budgeting, credit and debt, retirement, taxes, estate planning, small business, and more. There will be a limited number of 30-minute sessions so please call in advance to reserve an appointment time.
