A Gardena gang member was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Oct. 17 in the shooting death of three people and the attempted murder of a fourth victim.

Luis  Erasmo Rivera Garcia, 30, received his sentencing nearly a year after being convicted on three counts of first-degree murder. In 2008, Garcia shot to death Jose Farias, 24, his brother Victor Farias, 25, and Vidal Robolledo, 23. A fourth man was wounded.

The victims were at a cruising event in 2008, in the area of Imperial Highway and Western Avenue, near Inglewood. An argument erupted between the men and Garcia, who pulled a gun and fired shots. Garcia then fled the scene.

Authorities believe Garcia mistook the victims for rival gang members. He evaded capture for three years, then in 2011 was picked up in a countywide gang sweep of Gardena 13 members. Garcia has been in jail since his capture.
