California Assemblymember Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) has nominated REALTOR® and Gardena resident Mina Semenza as Woman of the Year of the 62nd Assembly District, in recognition of Women’s History Month and of her leadership and service in her community.

In addition to her work in her community, she is the elected City Clerk for the City of Gardena and is a board member of both the South Bay Association of REALTORS® and the California Association of REALTORS®.

“I am truly honored to recognize one of Gardena’s great women leaders,”

Assemblymember Bradford, who respresents the 62nd Assembly District, said. “Semenza has been active in the South Bay for over 40 years as a business owner, chair of the Gardena City Planning Commission, and a board member of the Gardena YWCA. She is exactly the type of person who makes Gardena the wonderful community that I call home.”

Her peers applaud Bradford’s choice.

“We are thrilled that Mina Semenza received this honor and has been recognized for her

tireless work in the community,” Tamara Suminski, president of the South Bay

Association of REALTORS® said. “This award highlights both Women’s History Month and also the contributions that REALTORS® everywhere make in their own cities and

neighborhoods.”

Semenza has a long history of leadership and community service in the City of Gardena. In addition to her work in real estate, she is an active member of the California City Clerks Association. She is passionate about the quality of life for all residents and serves as a coordinator for Gardena’s Neighborhood Watch program, friends said.

Previously, Semenza served the City of Gardena as chair of the Planning Commission,

member of the Chief of Police Advisory Panel, and member of the Human Services

Commission. She also was president of the Gardena Valley YWCA.

As lifelong resident, Semenza raised a family, owned a small business in Gardena, and is

a family caregiver to her elderly mother, aunt, and daughter with a disability. Her core principle is to make a positive contribution where possible. Semenza said she works to ensure the office of Gardena City Clerk operates with high standards, professionalism, and transparency. She has a reputation for being a tireless community advocate for businesses and families.

Each March, members of the California Assembly observe Women’s History Month and

recognize women in their communities for their service and distinction. A woman of the

year is chosen from each Assembly district by the member representing that district.

Women of the year were honored March 10 on the Assembly floor.
