GPD captures alleged serial robber

Gardena police arrested a Los Angeles man suspected in a spree of robberies last week, across three cities including Gardena, authorities said.

Walter James Mack, 26, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Feb. 12 on suspicion of committing eight robberies, seven on Feb. 11 including five Subway shops in Gardena, Hawthorne, and Los Angeles. On that same day, he is suspected of robbing a Little Caesar’s restaurant in Gardena and a 7-Eleven in Hawthorne, GPD Lt. Steve Prendergast said.

The first robbery was a Subway shop in Hawthorne Feb. 7, Prendergast said.

GPD detectives, working with Hawthorne police and LAPD found Mack through his registered vehicle, a 2010 blue Chevy Malibu.

Witnesses and victims provided information that led to the suspect’s arrest.

Mack was held at the Gardena station jail on  $120,000 bail. He was to be arraigned Feb. 14 in Torrance Superior Court.
