Mayor Tanaka plans State of the City Address March 26

Gardena Mayor Paul Tanaka will reflect on the local affairs and community health during his annual State of the City Dinner and Address Wednesday, March 26 at the Nakaoka Community Center, 1670 W. 162nd St., Gardena. The address is planned for 7:15 p.m., and is preceded by a social at 5:30 and a dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Tanaka, who is serving his third term as Gardena mayor, traditionally keeps an upbeat address, focusing on the accomplishments of 2013 and the outlook for 2014.

Tanaka, who is serving his third term as Gardena mayor, traditionally keeps an upbeat address, focusing on the accomplishments of 2013 and the outlook for 2014.

A long time member of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs and a candidate for the Sheriffs job this year, Tanaka is expected to focus attention to public safety and give a nod to Gardena Police Chief Ed Medrano and work of his department.

The GPD has been revamped with state-of-the-art technology and video surveillance which has enabled police to keep a watch on the community through numerous installed video cameras.

Other areas the mayor is expected to address are the City’s financial state, the work of City Manager Mitch Lansdell, the abundance of community events through the Recreation Department, headed by director Kelly Fujio, and the various areas of business development.
