Tanaka reinstalled as Mayor Pro Tem, contract agreed at council meeting

At the City Council meeting on the evening of Tuesday, July 28, item 8A called for the annual reassignment of the Mayor Pro Tem position, taking over from Mark Henderson. The council, with new member Jeff Fukasawa attending his first meeting since his successful election, unanimously voted for Rodney Tanaka to take the position.

This will be Tanaka’s fourth term, having previously held the role in 2018/19, 2021/22, and 2024/25. It will continue the theme of Henderson and Tanaka handing the role to each other; the last council member outside of those two to hold the Mayor Pro Tem position was Council Member Paulette Francis in 2022/23. Tanaka officially takes on the position from August 11.

Item 8B saw the council vote on “reorganization of council assignments and alternates to outside/city assignment.” Everybody retained their existing assignments, and Fukasawa was assigned to the newly-joined California Contract Cities Association (CCCA), with Francis the alternate.

Finally, item 17A called on the council to, “Approve a Contract Change Order to the Engineering Staff Augmentation Services Agreement with DCCM Consultant, Inc., an Additional Amount not to Exceed $124,800.00.”

That item passed unanimously.
