GHS routes Hollywood, now 10-1

Gardena High’s boys’ basketball team is currently enjoying its Christmas Break with a 10-1 mark after rolling over host Hollywood High 81-54 in non-league action last Friday.

The Panthers started quickly in jumping out to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Gardena took a 40-22 bulge into halftime and led by 28 (63-35) after three periods before clearing the bench.

“We jumped on them early,” Gardena head coach Ernie Carr said. “They (Hollywood) never got close.”

Junior Michael Franking led the Panthers with a game-high 30 points. Cameron Mayhan added 19 points and Anthony Wheeler chipped in 14.

Gardena is taking this week off before beginning play in the San Pedro Tournament with two games next Thursday. The Panthers will play against Arleta at 1 p.m. and Port of Los Angeles at 5:30 p.m. The classic runs through Dec. 29.
