North Torrance High’s boys’ basketball won two games in two days to improve its record to 5-6 last week.
At Banning High in Wilmington last Thursday, the Saxons held off the Pilots 74-72. At North on Friday, the Saxons rolled over Wiseburn-DiVinci 69-41.
Against Wiseburn-DiVinci from El Segundo, North had a commanding lead throughout virtually the entire game. The Saxons led 17-10 after the first quarter, 38-22 at halftime, 50-30 after three periods and by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter.
Marcus Carter led North with a game-high 24 points. Theo Henderson added 13 points, as 11 different Saxons scored.
Wiseburn-DiVinci was led by Nathaniel Perry with 10 points.
Against Banning, North led 49-36 at halftime but the Pilots bounced back to grab a two-point lead (61-59) after three quarters. North came back to outscore Banning 15-11 in the fourth period to pull out the game.
Carter sparked the Saxons with 28 points, followed by Perry with 17.
North opened the Pioneer League at home against defending league champion Torrance last Tuesday. The Saxons have non-league games at home against El Segundo today at 7:30 p.m. and against Mira Costa at Redondo High’s small gym Friday at 7 p.m. That is because Mira Costa High’s gym is now condemned and is expected to be demolished over the school’s high school break. The gym, which was small seating approximately 700 fans, was used by the Mustangs since 1951.
