Okinawa group to host picnic and bon dance

The Okinawa Association of America (OAA)'s annual picnic is planned for Sunday, July 13 at Whittier Narrows Park in South El Monte (750 Santa Anita Avenue, Area E-1, $6 parking).

Picnic opens at 10 a.m. and the program begins at 11 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunches, lawn chairs, blankets, and happi coats and spend the day with family and friends

The picnic has been a tradition for members since its first inception in the 1930s. “It is now a place for all generations to enjoy a summer afternoon of entertainment, games/races, raffle drawings, and the only all-Okinawan bon dance in Los Angeles,” organizers said.
