Scouting of America Troops 719 and 310G have announced that they will host their annual Pancake Breakfast on April 12, from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.
“For over 60 years, in what has become a yearly Spring tradition, this Torrance based Scout Troop has served the community a classic pancake breakfast including eggs, juice, coffee, and ham; prepared by the Scouts and Scout parents at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (1964 W. 162nd St. Gardena, CA 90247),” a statement reads. “Guests can enjoy their breakfast in a dining hall or can take-out where Scouts can assist guests to take their breakfasts to their cars.”
“Pancake breakfast is our largest fundraiser and funds all of our activities for the entire year. This includes hikes, campouts and also equipment. It also gives an opportunity for the scouts to have responsibilities and build relationships in their community,” said Life Scout Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Leila Ochiai.
The scout’s statement continues: “Scouting of America (previously the Boy Scouts of America) has a large and important presence in the lives of the Torrance and Gardena communities’ middle-high school aged boys and girls. For over 70 years, Troop 719, and since 2020, Troop 310G, have executed their Scouting program through High Adventure; trekking sections of the John Muir Trail, while climbing infamous peaks like Mount Whitney, scaling the rock formations at Joshua Tree, or enjoying the sweet breeze on the trails in Hawaii and Utah. Scouting has not only given them an extraordinary capacity for fitness, but also provides opportunities to overcome challenges and skills that will last them a lifetime. Through its High Adventure Scouting program, Troops 719 and 310G turn eager boys and girls into strong and capable young leaders through their journey on the path to Eagle. It’s also about enjoying the journey.”
“I remember that when I first joined Scouting, I was a quiet and shy kid. I think Scouting has taught me the importance of perseverance.” said recent Eagle Scout Aston Nagahashi, the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 719.
“I look up to my older siblings in scouts because I want to be able to have the same fun experiences they have at camp,” said newest troop 719 scout Johnny Yonemura.
“Being an Eagle Scout, Scouting’s highest rank, and one of the most recognizable achievements for a youth, is usually obtained near the end of his/her journey in Scouting, but it is not the only goal of Scouting, especially in Troop 719 and 310G,” they say. “As a High Adventure Troop, Scouts grow through the challenges experienced and overcome on the trail.”

“The two troops are seen frequently backpacking and camping throughout California and leading events in collaboration with other area Troops. A long-awaited event in the summer includes Long Term, a week-long hiking trip in higher elevations in places like the High Sierras in California, where for over 5-10 days, Scouts hike anywhere from 20 to 70 miles through the dramatic scenery of the lakes, mountains, and wildlife. These experiences are not only memorable, but also special opportunities that you can’t get anywhere else. Scouts also lift the Torrance and Gardena communities by assisting with food drives, toy drives, church events like Faith United Methodist Church’s annual Harvest Festival, honoring the final resting places of local veterans during Memorial Day, making meals for Gardena and Torrance families during Thanksgiving and other events, locally and in the broader Los Angeles area.”
“I like scouting because it teaches me leadership skills, survival skills, and helps me make bonds with other girls that I wouldn’t anywhere else” said Tenderfoot Scout Kyra Masuda
“Scouts become natural leaders,” they statement continues. “Through their experiences in the Troops’ programs. The Scouts learn to be adaptable, resilient, confident, and good problem solvers while getting familiar with survival skills like knots, first aid, outdoor preparedness, and navigation.”
“Pancake Breakfast helps my troop grow by increasing our funds for more events and fun activities,” said Webmaster William Wamsley
“For those looking for a great breakfast and a meaningful way to support one of Torrance and Gardena’s longest standing Scout Community traditions, the Troop 719 and Troop 310G Pancake Breakfast promises to be a fun and worthwhile event for the whole family and community. Your support will continue to allow for the Scouts of Troop 719 and 310G to build on their High Adventure program to make more memories, learn new skills, and create lifelong bonds, which will guide them throughout their adult life.”
