Those four have been substantial in keying Serra to the CIF-Southern Section Western Division and California State Division II crowns. The Cavaliers topped Chaminade, which finished ahead of Serra for first place in the Del Rey League, 30-28, for the Western Division title. It avenged the Cavaliers’ 28-20 league loss to the Eagles.
Serra went on to defeat Oakdale, 42-15, for its second state championship on Dec. 15 at the Home Depot Center in Carson.
“I’m proud of our guys,” Serra head coach Scott Altenberg said. “We had a great group of seniors.”
For Gardena, dominating all-around star Tyree Simmons signed as a cornerback at Colorado State University. Wide receiver Domenic Toliver, the son of head Panther coach Deon Toliver, signed at Idaho State.
Also, right end Mat Boesen, who keyed West Torrance High’s football team to the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division championship game where it lost to Bay League foe Palos Verdes 35-14 on Dec. 1, signed at Boise State.
CIF-Los Angeles City champion Narbonne had all-American quarterback Troy Williams and linebacker Kieshawn Bierra sign at University of Washington.
Defensive lineman Paulo Lepua signed at Washington’s PAC-12 and cross-state rival Washington State.
Wide receiver A.J. Richardson, who originally committed to California, switched to Boise State.
Other Gauchos who signed were offensive lineman Alanti Toussui (San Diego State), wide receiver Greg Clark (New Mexico State) and defensive lineman Victor Valentine (Evangel, Missouri).
