Over the summer, Gardena-based student Abigail Rafeek will take part in a “unique academic and career-oriented development experience,” Intensive Law & Trail at Stanford University, alongside outstanding students from all over the country.
While from Gardena, Rafeek attends Rolling Hills Preparatory High School in San Pedro, and is going into her junior year of high school.
“Abigail was accepted into NHS and the Global Studies and World Languages diploma program at her school during her sophomore year,” reads a statement. “Both groups have helped her to develop a more open-minded outlook on the world and community around her.”
Meanwhile, Intensive Law & Trial is one of the Envision by WorldStrides family of programs that “enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom.”
“I am honored to have the opportunity to attend the Intensive Law and Trial Program,” Rafeek told the GVN. “I am excited to gain a deeper understanding of the legal system and learn more about how law is practiced. I also look forward to meeting other students who share my strong interest in law. Most of all, I hope to develop meaningful relationships that will last as I navigate my future path in the legal field.”
“I am excited for Abigail Rafeek to meet, work, and collaborate with fellow high-aspiring students from other cities and schools,” said Dr. Jan Sikorsky, Vice President, Education for Envision. “Intensive Law & Trail is a wonderful opportunity for ambitious young students to explore their interests outside the classroom and discover how to innovate and think creatively through hands-on immersive learning. Our students are challenged with real-world simulations and problems, working together to develop unique solutions and projects to bring life to their studies and career interests.”
According to a statement, Rafeek “also plays soccer and practices with the LA Harbor City Junior College. This past year she played on the boys’ soccer team, and it was a great experience. Last summer Abigail did an internship and got to observe a DA and gain more insight into the process of law. She is excited to be attending this program and learn more about the world of law. This opportunity is something that she is looking forward to and hoping will expand her knowledge and understanding of all sides of the justice system.”
Envision by WorldStrides has spent four decades empowering “extraordinary students to become their best selves through programs that enable them to discover their passion, explore a career, and positively impact their world.
