The YWCA of Gardena Valley plans an event in which the community can make a difference, with the first step.

For two or more pairs of old shoes, a person will be able to see a performance of “Giving Aloha Spirit” by the Best of Hawaii Saturday, Nov. 10 at the YWCA facility, near the corner of Normandie Avenue and Gardena Boulevard.

Singers, dancers, and musicians are donating their time, energy and talent to help “save the lives” of people around the world with clean drinking water. Purification systems will be purchased through funds generated from donated shoes.

Each system is capable of converting contaminated water at the rate of 10,000 gallons per day.
Entertainers will perform in two shows, with admission for adults being two or more pairs of donated shoes for adults, and for children ages 6 to 12, one pair of donated shoes. The first show is noon to 2 p.m. and the second show from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Children age 5 and younger can see either show at no charge.

Deedee will cater $8 plate lunches of Kaulua Pua'a, Hawaiian-Style Chicken, Tossed Greens and Rice.  Bottled water, soda, and Haupia (coconut pudding) will be available at $1 and Rainbow shave at $2.

Hosting the event are SOLES FOR LIFE-YWCA Gardena Valley Partnership, and Great Talent of Entertainers, under the tarp at the YWCA Gardena Valley parking lot, 1341 W. Gardena Blvd. Shoe donations can help save hundreds of lives throughout the world with clean drinking water, one village at a time.
