Officers countywide have unofficially arrested 462 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In 2013, 568 DUI arrests occurred during the same three-day time frame.

Over the course of the next several days of the campaign, multiple DUI operations will be taking place, officials said. In addition, all regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. DUI arrest data collection will continue through midnight Labor Day Monday, Sept. 1.
Avoid programs, named for the number of police agencies in each county, are deploying Multiple/DUI Driver’s License Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force operations and local Roving DUI patrols
region-wide during 18 day Summer/Labor Day Campaign.
“Drunk driving unnecessarily puts community at risk,” said Chief Medrano. “We’re hoping that Los Angeles County drivers get the message and take some simple steps to prevent a tragedy. There’s always another way home.”
Avoid the 100 DUI taskforce is reminding drivers to plan ahead and designate a sober driver before attending any events where alcohol will be served. “Planning a sober ride home, whether it’s a friend, a taxi, or public transportation, is the right choice,” Medrano added.
This Labor Day weekend don’t let the festivities turn into fatalities. Remember that, aside from the obvious risks of killing yourself or someone else, driving impaired can also lead to serious punitive consequences. A DUI arrest can mean time in jail, loss of your license, and steep financial expenses; the average DUI can cost up to $10,000.
