Gardena High's Chad Smith led the team with 15 points as the Panthers rallied to defeat Washington 56-46 in their Marine League opening boys' basketball game last Thursday at Gardena. The Panthers improved to 6-2 and begin the San Pedro Christmas Classic against Pacifica High from Garden Grove Friday at 2:30 p.m. Gardena resumes league play at Carson on Jan. 14.
