As we build up to the General Municipal Election on June 2, the GVN will be speaking to the candidates, including Tahron Jackson, who is standing for City Treasurer
Can you give us a brief summary of your career / life in politics? What makes you an ideal candidate for this role?
I’ve spent my career working in public service as a forensic accountant and investigator for Los Angeles County. My role is to review financial operations, analyze programs, and ensure accountability and compliance. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Management with a concentration in Finance and Accounting and a Master’s degree in Public Administration.
What makes me a strong candidate is that I bring real, hands-on experience in financial oversight. The Treasurer’s role is about protecting public funds, ensuring transparency, and providing independent oversight—and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing professionally.
What makes Gardena special?
What makes Gardena special is the people. It’s a tight-knit community with a strong sense of history, family, and pride. I moved to Gardena in 2001, and my wife’s family has been part of this community since 1967. I’ve raised my children here, and I’ve seen firsthand how much people care about this city. Gardena is a place where people look out for each other and that’s something worth protecting.
If successful, what would your first act be? What are your priorities?
My first priority would be transparency. I want to make sure residents can clearly understand how the city’s finances are being managed. That means improving how financial information is shared, simple summaries, clear reporting, and regular updates. I also want to ensure strong financial oversight, so we’re protecting reserves, monitoring spending, and making sure every dollar is being used responsibly. The goal is to build trust through clarity and accountability.
How is the campaign going so far?
The campaign has been going well. I’ve been out in the community connecting with residents, sharing a survey I created to gather their input, listening to their concerns, and discussing my vision. What I’m hearing is that people want transparency, accountability, and someone who will represent them, not politics. Seeing residents take the time to complete the survey has been very encouraging.
Any endorsements?
My support has been coming directly from the community, residents, local leaders, and organizations that care about transparency and accountability in our city. I’m proud to have the support of community-based organizations like Prince Hall Masons and others who believe in independent leadership and responsible financial oversight. To me, that grassroots support means everything because it reflects the voice of the people.
What would you like to say to the people of Gardena?
I’m running for City Treasurer because I believe this role should be about serving the people, with transparency, accountability, and integrity. Gardena deserves independent financial oversight and clear communication about how public funds are being managed. I’m committed to protecting your tax dollars and making sure every decision is made in the best interest of this community. I respectfully ask for your support.
