Panther soccer teams reach City semifinals

Gardena High’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams both reached the CIF-Los Angeles City Section semifinals after key victories last week. Last Saturday at Gardena, the top-seeded Lady Panthers rolled over Vaughn 5-0. On Thursday, host Gardena downed Triumph Charter 3-1 in L.A. City Section Division IV play. In Division III boys’ action last week, host Gardena crushed Manual Arts 5-0. Last Friday, Gardena, the playoffs’ No. 5 seed, shut out host and No. 4 seed Elizabeth 2-0 in East L.A. For the Panther boys against Elizabeth, senior Eynar Romero and junior Alexis Corte each scored a goal. Kevin Martinez had one assist and sophomore goalkeeper Salvador Tojil recorded the shutout. Gardena hosted No. 8 Chatsworth on Wednesday. The Chancelors won their quarterfinal game at home against Stern 2-1 last Friday. In the Gardena’s girls win over Triumph Charter, Melani Ramo led the Panthers with two goals and Andrea Reyes added one. The Lady Panthers hosted Jefferson High from South L.A. on Wednesday.
