Police arrest drivers following intersec. takeover at 132nd St.

On the evening of Monday, July 24, Gardena Police Department officers arrested all of the occupants of a car that had been involved in an intersection “takeover.”

According to a statement from the Gardena PD, “Last night at about 10:30 PM, officers received a call of an intersection takeover at 132nd St. at Halldale Avenue. As the crowd was being dispersed, officers attempted to stop a vehicle, which led officers on a pursuit. The vehicle was stolen, and led officers on a pursuit into Los Angeles. The driver ultimately crashed, but fled on foot.”

The statement goes on to say that the driver was followed by a helicopter and “never had a chance. Everyone in the car went to jail.”

A takeover is described by KTLA as involving, ‘flash mobs’ of hundreds of spectators and several cars that arrive in a coordinated manner at specific intersections, or even interstates, and blocking traffic to speed and show off dangerous stunts like drifting.”

Naturally, any number of people can get hurt, whether it be spectators or citizens who happened to be in the area. Thankfully, the Gardena PD swiftly halted this one.
