Stephen Thompson Jr. led Bishop Montgomery High's boys' basketball team with a game-high 27 points to key the Knights to a 73-53 win over rival and host Serra on January 28. Thompson also put in 37 points as Bishop Montgomery crushed Loyola 94-34 in a Fairfax State Preview Showcase last Saturday. Thompson is already headed to Oregon State University, where his father, Stephen Sr., is an assistant coach. Stephen Sr. was a standout at Crenshaw High and Syracuse University in the 1980s and played in the National Basketball Association, mostly with the Sacramento Kings. The Knights are currently ranked No. 1 in the CIF-Southern Section Division IVAA and fourth in California. They are also rated 20th in the United States by USA Today. Bishop Montgomery will visit Cantwell-Sacred Heart in a tough game in Montebello next Monday at 7 p.m.
